a noisy world
intro⌗
We all have heard this piece of advice before and admittedly gave it to other people as a form of consolation. “You know, Leonardo Di Vinci was a master at science, architechture and various other fields on top of being one of the greatest painters of all time, why can’t you, a person with immense access to technology and knowledge, do similarily”.
At first, it seems helpful and hopeful, but once you remind yourself of this advice consistently, you realize Leonardo had an advantage that’s better than ours and that’s the lack of choice. Had Leonardo known he could’ve became a music artist, a photographer, an electrician, or one of the thousands of other jobs he could’ve had, he might not have been a polymath. He could’ve been distracted by this or by the constant stimulation, both sexual and psychological, or a plethora of other distractions.
We are burdened. By technology, by people, by lack of drection, by the immense amount of choice. We trust we can become who want to be, but we do not know who we want to be. We lack a sense of identity. By “we”, I, of course, refer to the internet generation, which is a generation that has easy access to fast internet everywhere they go.
In short, the world has become so goddamn noisy; this article’s purpose is to outline some anecdotes that should help the reader get a more focused outlook towards the challenges they’ll face in daily life.
connected technology isn’t always good⌗
The fact that we are all connected comes off as heart warming at first but slowly becomes more and more distracting as times passes. Nobody needs to know what is happening to their immediate family, friends and extended family every single day.
The mundane is not important; the extraordinary is what matters. A health trouble that occurs to a family member or a friend is what will makes us give them a visit not a funny meme on facebook.
One worthy thing to note is that, more than ever, we have to fight for ourselves. You cannot inherit the family business because it is not what you excel at, we barely get by unless we work at something we excel at, something that drives us from within.
Back in the good old days, there was a sense of community and individualism wasn’t that common unless a particular individual was troublesome to the group and was kicked out for it. But, now, there is no sense of community due to how scientific everything is, we analyze everything way too much to believe in community, or in common values. That’s a topic for another day but to wrap this up, let’s just say that community isn’t as strong as it was.
solitude as a coping mechanism⌗
Solitude serves as an antidote more than ever because direction is so rare. We are always pressured to follow what others tell us through social media; it becomes increasingly hard to remind ourselves of what we want, solitude is a pillar that reminds of what matters, what we should focus on.
Loneliness could become a side effect that occurs while in solitude but through focusing on work we gain a deeper connection to our lives and our purposes that will diminish any harm that loneliness causes.
There is also a trend to mistake FOMO, the fear of missing out, as loneliness when in reality you are not afraid of being lonely but you are fearing something much more irrational. You will always miss out on something, accept it already.
conclusion⌗
The world is noisy. We need to combat this to enjoy life a little bit more, so, we must escape or resort to another place that can take us in. Looking inside of ourselves, we can find that one place, that safe place that always accepts us. Through solitude, we enter deeper into ourselves, discovering more parts of us that in-turn give us more energy to combat life with, it is a tree that feeds itself.
