design your own job
I notice sometimes that there are cooperations that allow potential hirees to design their own job and the benefit is that as a person designs their own job, both parties can figure out what they want from each other and where they could get value from one another.
It is puzzling to design your own job say after working in a company for a couple of months because that’s not enough time to fully assess what are the strengths and weaknesses of the company. I’d much rather somebody who has been in the company longer than me tell my what my responsibilities are and them expanding as needed by the company.
That way, I can provide value for the company even when I do not have 12 months of internal knowledge and it helps me navigate the company’s system.
I figure that design your own job became a trend for a small while because a couple of people approached some companies with some unique opportunity that they never heard about before. Something that they knew that the company needed but the company itself didn’t know.
I applaud those poeple for their research skills being that sharp but it seems to me that this skill is very rare and shouldn’t be an expectation of most applicants.
A much better way to fetch applicants exists and that is to list out responsibilites in an unordered list so that applicants prepare as needed.
Another way I call “doing your own homework” is to have assiociates in the field already that you have connected with long before you needed somebody for the job.
Because, as kids, rarely did we do our homework and instead we procrastinated until the last minute only to steal it from another kid and change it a bit so that the teacher didn’t know. Wonderful times.
Anyhoo, maybe an alternative exists in already existing social medias that people have been using since the last 10ish years.
And no, not some machine learning stuff with some data mining and complex algorithm but actually reading people’s profiles to learn more about them. LinkedIn already automates everything that they have and it is not as a good of a solution as it is.
I suspect we could use people that are interested in doing their homework, interested in developing human connection with other people and hiring them as needed.
