intro

Technology is fast. As a quick example of this, 10 years ago the fastest internet connection is 2 MBPS, nowdays the average is 99 MBPS. That’s a 500% improvement right there, and that is only in internet connection.

Nowadays smart phones are so powerful that they can be plugged into a monitor and act as a desktop replacement.

Multitasking with phones is very much possible and is preferable to normal usage.

slow it down

This is all great news, but not for the consumers of technology. Technology has become faster than the people who are using it.

Take For exmaple the IBM Deep Blue. The IBM Deep Blue was the first supercomputer to be a human at chess, and that was in 1985.

Nowadays, your phone can do the same thing only at a cheaper coster and it can do it faster too.

IBM’s 100 Million Super Computer < Your 100$ Chinese Smartphone.

Basically, your phone processes faster than you could ever process stuff.

practicality

While technology improving sounds good in theory, it is not so much in practicality.

People are easily distracted, we jump from one thing to another without really evaluating why we did it.

Think about the last time you were searching for your keys, and returned to the same room you were searching it.

A lot goes on in auto pilot.

We cannot be 100% present in every single day, that is too mentally taxing. However, we can aim to improve our autopilot process.

Technology’s fast and sudden improvement has put a hinderance to our ability to focus, I think.

Too much happens online for a person to stop using it, and when they take the bait they are flooded with everything that is pleasant made tailored for them. Nothing even comes close to our virtual world.

Technology has replaced all the other mediums due to how efficient it is. At this point, I am very doubtful of how people could regulate it.

For our autopilot system to improve, we need to eliminate technology or at least manage it if possible. Otherwise, we can fall a victim to technology’s motivations for us.

slowed down technology

Technology was made to advance human kind. But fast technology slows down human kind more than it advances it.

Slowed Down Technology often is used with a specific purpose in mind. A great example of slowed down technology is a typewriter made specifically for typing and nothing else.

Sure, you could replace your typewriter with your chinese smartphone, but you are more prone to distractions with your smart phone than the typewriter.

Little choices like this matter a ton. It is always the little things that matter rather than the big exponential change.
